Here are some more tile iterations; Started with a surface, rebuit it with varying resolutions, then proceeded to deal step-by-step with porosity, then angle, density, layering, and overlapping.

Wind Fence Porosity Test: Snow Drift Pattern

November 7, 2008 · 2 Comments

The whole of today was spent running around preparing our experiment and blowing granulated sugar all over the upper gallery. It was pretty sweet and messy, but we ended up with cool results of how the types of fences could affect the direction and reaction of wind, as seen in the drift pattern created in the videos. We kept it at a pretty basic stage of the drift, seeing that we would need a lot more sugar to create an obvious proportion of drift depth in relation to the height of the fence. This early stage, though, was quite enough to paint a picture for us to understand the relations caused by the different factors such as porosity, angle of fence in relation to the direction of the wind, depth of drift, drift pattern and wind direction as it hits the fence, and also the start of drift setback from the fence. For porosity, we tested a solid wall (0%), a 25% porous wall, a 50% porous wall, and a 75% porous wall. For angles, we used 30, 60, and 90 degrees, applied to a solid wall( 0 %) and a 50% porous wall. For videos of the experiment, go to the share folder on the Server:

I couln’t get the videos uploaded through YouTube fast enough. Does anyone know a better way to post videos here?? Thanks.
